How do I access A.R.S.? When I try to go there or subscribe, I get a 480 authentication error. Is there some sort of gatekeeper, or is it a problem with my ISP?

Could be that your browser is not configured
properly or that you have not entered the name
of the news server of your provider, I find
netscape communicator the better choice because
of the usenet performance.
In any case a call to your provider helpdesk
may be a good idea to resolve the problem.

I've been out there for some time, but I never had difficulty by getting an account at deja.com (remarq.com does the same), and then accessing the usenet groups.

Thanks for the responses.
I have had the same problem using both Netscape and Int. Exp.
I will check with my ISP and post any wins or further questions here.

As promised, I am reporting my win at accessing a.r.s. AND a.c.t.
The problem was resolved by updating my password, which in my client (Outlook Express) is accomplished throught the "Accounts. . ." submenu of the "Tools" menu. I figured that the problem cause was a recent upgrade of my ISP's newsgroup server, with a new domain name. My client had somehow just deleted my password when it downloaded the new domain name. Go figure!!
Thanks again to Red Squirrel One, Status Quo, and Dick H. for responding.

I just went to the address that Dick Head posted and found a bunch of short messages that weren't even really worth reading. What is that site all about? Are there discussions going on like there are here?

Hey Dick H.! What books should I look for at those sites you posted?

I've already ordered some and have been told they've been posted to me. After I've received them I might tell you their titles, but in the meantime I don't want to have others competing with me to buy a single copy of an out-of-print book.
One book that was listed for sale there was the original 1951 edition of "Self Analysis", for $50. I tried to buy that one but received no response from the bookseller so I suppose it must have been sold out.
One of the books on its way to me, for which I paid by credit card is "Self Analysis in Scientology" which has been out of print since the fifties.
