What is Earth? (another theory) part 1 Author: punkfloyd Posted: Thur Aug 23 2001 11:31 pm We all have heard Scn theories that Earth is a prison or a concentration camp or something like that. LRH was a big proponent of these. Here's a new theory for you. Naturally, no claims are made regarding its truthfulness or otherwise. But, anyways... Read and enjoy. PART 1 Long ago, maybe 75 million years ago, maybe later, in this Solar System there has been a big outbreak of a strange mental disease. People affected by that syndrome all of a sudden started to behave like self-important ego-maniacs. Pretty much every word that came out of their mouths was a blatant or veiled self-promotion. They'd go incessantly: "me, me, great me, it's all about me" all day long, pausing only for night's sleep. But even in their dreams were the stars of the show. When they were arguing they were not concerned with truth, they were trying to prove they are smarter. When painting a picture they were not trying to make the world a more beautiful place, they were trying to show that they were great artists. They didn't play games for fun, they played solely to win. They showed compassion not to simply help but because they have imagined themselves on the place of the other person and felt waves of self-pity. "Perhaps next time someone will help ME" - they thought. Even their altruism had this ulterior purpose to show off how altruistic they are. "WIIIFM: What is in it for me?" was the motto of the afflicted. Naturally, this kind of attitude lead to some very self-destructive behavior. The mental anguish caused by this incessant ego-gratification took its toll on the bodies of the infected. Their lifespan shrunk to just a few decades and, what was really strange, most of it they spent trembling in fear of death and everything that happens after it. From everyone else's viewpoint that was really really hard to understand. Getting a brand new car, or a flying saucer, or even a new set of kitchen utensils is always an exciting experience. Of course, you should be careful with your stuff and don't wreck it (Ok some rich spoiled kids did like to wreck their vessels just for the fun of it, but not everyone has dads with bottomless accounts), but being *so* terrified of it breaking down? Come on! It's not that they could even escape death by having many bodies at once, or by jumping from one right into another. The syndrome has also rendered them virtually incapable of being anywhere but inside their own only body. What is worse ,the disease was highly contagious, just living near and talking to the sick people were enough to contract the disease. Not only that, but the afflicted would often work really hard to seek and infect any and all people around them. After a long investigation (the doctors researching this disease are really brave people!) it finally became known that the cause of this disease is a strange intelligent virus that came from another dimension. It literally took over the minds of the affected people. Since it was a very smart virus, it actually managed to somehow emulate the thoughts of its hosts so sneakily that they mistook the viral thoughts for their own! The egotism and all the incessant talking about oneself turned out to be a very clever way to confuse everyone about who is who. When a person points to himself and says "It's me, me, me!", many might eventually believe that well, that's him. In reality though, the disease was so all-consuming that the true personality of the poor guy was reduced to but a tiny speck. A speck lost in the ocean of continuous senseless chatting and self-important thinking that went inside his head. As it was noted above, the virus spread itself by toxic telepathic communication. When an infected person talked to you (or sometimes even just looked to you!), he or she projected a beam that weakened your will for a period of time. Then the virus used the opportunity to divide and to take over one's mind for good. Unfortunately there was no known cure. The only hope was to contain the disease. So a Quarantine Zone was created in a radius of one lightyear around the Solar System. No unauthorized vehicles were allowed in and no earthling was allowed out until a cure was found. All people sick with Egotism (as the disease became known) from all of the galaxy were brought onto Earth and left there. Later on, there were little outbreaks of the disease here and there across the galaxy. Fortunately, they were all easily contained, now that the safety measures were better known. All people who did get it were put in a special shielded capsule and also brought to Earth. Now the spread of the terrible infection was under control. However, how would doctors develop a cure if all the patients were locked away in the backwaters of the Galaxy? Bringing them back was just too dangerous, even with all the precautions in place. And also keeping a guy, even a crazy guy, in an impenetrable capsule for years, or even centuries, making experiments on him was just not humane. It was known that the virus for some reason needed a meat body to be active and to spread - so keeping the guy without a body would make him more safe. But even this was not 100% proof and if the virus is dormant, how would you fish it out? You couldn't even find it, yet it was there - ready to spring out at the first opportunity. Author: punkfloyd Posted: Thur Aug 23 2001 11:44 pm PART 2 It was a sad truth that many of the brightest minds of the Galaxy have contracted the terrible disease during the first outbreak. Among them were the best doctors who were fighting the uphill battle for the minds of the Earthlings, there were some of wisest priests who then came to Earth to give spiritual guidance to the ailing, the smartest scientists who researched the virus. Many of them have succumbed to Egotism. However, in this there also was a hope. Perhaps, Earthlings could find the cure themselves? The virus didn't *completely* destroy one's abilities or the will to get well, just severely crippled them. The Galaxy Government would set up several outposts in the Solar System where people would come between lives, when the virus was inactive. There they would get some rest, see their visiting relatives and friends (only through a special force shield, of course), get some lectures on the progress of the battle with Egotism and, of course, be reminded of their mission on Earth - to find the cure. Then, sad as it is, they would have to be sent back to Earth. When virus wakes up (usually at the moment when the person takes over a new body) it erases most of the his or her memory - no doubt in an effort to wipe out any impression that life without Egotism is even possible. However, there was a slim chance that a dim memory of one's important quest in life would remain somewhere and that one would remember to make at least some progress towards the Great Purpose. This was not a very large chance at all, usually just a few percent, but that's all hope there was. Crazy as it is, the plan has worked somewhat. A few people now and then found a way to get rid of the virus and sometimes even managed to help a few of their friends. Most of these enlightened souls unfortunately got eventually reinfected but some managed to make it all the way to the outposts. There they gave their notes and words of wisdom to the doctors and scientists and lectured the recuperating Earthlings. The Earthlings listened intently, vowing to use the knowledge to fight the disease back on Earth. Alas, the moment the virus woke up, they forgot nearly everything Any attempts (and there were literally hundreds of those) to set up a large scale healing operation have failed so far. Some did start well but all eventually deteriorated into scary grotesque caricatures on themselves. The virus was not stupid at all, it did catch on. It either drove the leaders of these movements crazy, or subverted some of the key people down the line, or made many fake but similar movements so none could tell which is which, or just made other people destroy anyone involved in a flash of blind rage. Often it used all tactics at once. Something was missing. What was needed is a technique that could both get rid of the virus and vaccinate the person against any further reinfection. The technique that was so powerful that it would work against the constantly mutating and adapting infection. The technique that is so efficient so it could heal large numbers of people. A technique that it could not be suppressed out of sight by the people who are still infected. No such technique has been found... yet. And so here we are. PF Author: alice Posted: Fri Aug 24 2001 08:36 am Hi PF. Nice story line, thanks for posting it... BUT... WIIIFM! :-) |
