Commercialism and Independent Scientology From: ralph@xenologics.idiscover.co.uk (Ralph Hilton) Subject: Commercialism and Independent Scientology Date: 1996/07/22 Message-ID: <31f320fa.0@orac.idiscover.net>#1/1 organization: Xenologics newsgroups: alt.clearing.technology I left the Church of Scientology in 1982. The CofS is a very commercial organization. Freedom must be paid for is a prime doctrine in its operating basis. When a large number of people left the Church it seemed at first that there was a vast opportunity for open discussion about the tech and ways to improve it. People were freely exchanging data initially. Then it became commercial. A number of people started selling their version of the tech with claims that they had found the answer. They tended to use the same sort of mystery sandwich selling technique that the CofS employed. At that point the independent field splintered into a number of separate groups, each spreading their tech for which they would charge money. The interchange of information stopped and people were trying to charge any other researcher for "The One and Only true route" . Most of the time a.c.t. is an almost empty newsgroup compared with a.r.s. which is basically abusive trolls. Homer posts a fair amount which is mainly repostings and does a good job of keeping the NG fairly free of spam. The major outpoint that I observe is that of trying to make one's living from a tech rather than from one's technical expertise. Most people who want auditing in the field want someone who is a good auditor rather than want to buy the latest fad tech. If we can re-introduce the concept of free interchange of tech discoveries and observations then we stand a chance of eventually forming a group with an ability to develop and disseminate a technology free of the control mechanisms of the current church which has a degree of overall cohesiveness. When I've had answers to earlier postings in this NG they have been by e-mail. Can I ask that we start using the newsgroup? Any comments? Considerations? -- Ralph Hilton "Dianetics is not in any way covered by legislation anywhere, for no law can prevent one man sitting down and telling another man his troubles, and if anyone wants a monopoly on Dianetics, be assured that he wants it for reasons which have to do not with Dianetics but with profit."
