The Definition of "IS" 24 MARCH 1990 Definitions: Regular (adj) 1. following some rule or principle; according to rule. 2. Grammar. Having the usual changes of form to show tense, number, person, etc. Irregular (adj) 1. not regular; not according to rule or accepted standards. 2. Grammar. not conjugated in the usual way. Conjugation (noun) 1. Grammar. a. a systematic arrangement of the forms of a verb. b. a group of verbs having similar forms in such an arrangement. c. the act of giving the forms of a verb according to such an arrangment. Conjugate (verb) 1. to give the conjugation of a verb. There are two types of verbs: regular and irregular. The conjugation of an irregular verb such as "BE" does not follow normal grammatical standards. For instance, conjugating the regular verb "to walk" (in the present tense) would be done as follows: I walk However, an irregular verb does not follow normal grammatical standards. In other words, we do not say, "I be, You be, They be," etc. The conjugation of the irregular verb "to be" (in the present tense) would be as follows: I am So am, are and is are irregular forms of the verb "to be" and mean being or existing.
